Performance and Fuel Economy

The Colorado and Ranger both sport powerful engine options, though the Colorado has three engine options while the Ranger only offers one. While the Ranger's standard 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine is more powerful than the Colorado's base engine, it can't hold a candle to the Chevrolet's available 3.6-liter V6 and 2.8-liter Duramax® Turbo Diesel.

The 3.6-liter V6 gives the Colorado best-in-class maximum output of 308 horsepower, far surpassing the 270 horsepower of the Ranger. The available 2.8-liter Duramax Turbo-Diesel isn't just the most fuel-efficient midsize pickup on the road thanks to its 30 mpg on the highway, but it's also the best in its segment when it comes to torque (369 lb-ft) and towing (7,700 pounds).

Connectivity

The 2019 Chevrolet Colorado features the new Chevrolet Infotainment 3 System standard, offering a 7-inch diagonal color touch-screen interface, voice command capabilities, and Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™ integration at base. The Ranger does not offer Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™ capabilities standard — you have to pay extra to get them.

Ruggedness

The Ford Ranger touts itself as being a truck for off-roading, but that's only if you add on the FX4 Off-Road Package. Even with that, the Ranger can't compare to the Colorado ZR2, which is recognized as being the most capable off-road truck in its class.** With the might of the 3.6-liter V6 or the Duramax® 2.8-liter and segment-exclusive features like Multimatic DSSV™ Damping System and front and rear electronic-locking differentials, the Chevy Colorado ZR2 is the one true midsize truck for the adventure-ready.
